A three-week bicycle journey will honor the memory of a much-loved Illinois manufacturer.
Lynne Mohr passed away about a year ago, and her cousin, Georger Maurer, will bike Friday from Brite-O-Matic in Arlington Heights to the home where she was to retire in Montana.
Brite-O-Matic manufactures parts for car washes used by car dealerships.
Lynne Mohr’s son, Dan Mohr, is part of Brite-O-Matic’s third generation and says of Maurer, “He first started off (doing long-distance rides) a couple of years ago, doing the same exact thing for a very close friend, who had passed of cancer and was trying to raise money. He realized he has a passion for riding his bike, and seeing new things, and traveling to multiple countries, and he said, this is something that I want to do.”
The ride is a fund-raiser for scholarships for people who want to learn the trades. The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association Education Foundation is administering that part of the program.
Along for the bike ride: stones made from Lynne Mohr’s ashes, going home to Montana.
