Data center vote scheduled for March

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Dates are set – tentatively – to learn about and vote on a data center proposed southwest of Springfield.

“They are tentatively looking at a final vote in March; rescheduled both the date and the location for the Sangamon County board meeting. It is now March 23 at the BOS Center, which tells you they are anticipating a big crowd,” Michelle Ownbey, publisher of the Springfield Business Journal, told the WTAX Morning Newswatch. “But, prior to that, Feb. 19, they will have public comments the Zoning and Land Use committee. That will be in the regular meeting room there in the county complex.”

The zoning board’s recommendation is non-binding. “It works very much the same way the city process does,” said Ownbey. “The committee meets, makes a non-binding recommendation, and then the full county board has to vote on it, so there are still a couple of more opportunities for public participation or even if you just want to get some questions answered and find out about what’s going on.”
