Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The demolition of the former Pillsbury plant will now begin Thursday at 10am — two days later than originally planned.
Moving Pillsbury Forward’s Chris Richmond said that in a news release Wednesday afternoon. Richmond originally said demolition was expected to have begun Tuesday, once the crane to be used was assembled, which usually takes a day. But, Richmond later said Monday there were delays.
Now, Richmond says in the latest news release, “The big crane and wrecking ball are ready to go!”
“Everyone is welcome to come and be a part of the celebration,” Richmond said. “MPF has established a great viewing area near the main Pillsbury gate. There is plenty of parking in the former employee parking lots at the corner of 15th Street and Phillips Ave.”
Richmond says volunteers will be welcome on site starting at 7am, and that members are looking forward to hearing many Pillsbury stories throughout the day. Because of hot weather, there are expected to be shaded area, and water available because of the somewhat hot weather in the forecast.
