Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – For the most part, the snowfall Saturday was more than what you were expecting.

Snowfall reports following the storm submitted to the National Weather Service indicate potentially well more than the five inch minimum that was forecast.

Spaulding reported nearly eight inches of snow, while Springfield itself reported nearly nine inches, as of 4:30pm Saturday.

Jacksonville had the largest area total, at ten inches of snow.

Some parts of the area including Springfield reported some thundersnow — that’s when some of the heavier amounts started falling.  Some of the snow eventually turned to rain, causing potentially icy roads when temperatures fell again.

A number of activities, events, and even public transit cancelled Saturday.

A few more inches of snow could fall Monday, according to the Weather Service.
